Yoga

My journey with Yoga began in 1988 with Iyengar Yoga master John Schumacher. I continued with Iyengar and Vinyasa yoga until 2009 when I met my yoga guru Shyam Narayan Mishra in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. In India I received a highly traditional education in yoga that included asana, pranayama and the analysis of ancient texts such as Bhagavad Gita and Hatha Yoga Pradeepika.

In 2014, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga became my primary asana practice, and in 2016 I became a Certified Yoga Alliance Yoga Teacher in Mysore, Karnataka, the home of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and Krishnamacharya, BKS and BNS Iyengar and K. Pattabhi Jois.

Ashtengar

Ashtengar comes from Ashtanga and Iyengar. Ashtengar is my personal combination of both practices using the Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series as a template. It combines the specific, aligh-based approach of Iyengar with the vigorous, all-encompassing reality of Ashtanga Vinyasa.

Ashtengar is especially useful for beginners and assists those who are interested in working their way towards full expression in the very difficult poses that make up the Primary Series.
